Guitar workshop detail

Start with how it feels

A setup adjusts string height, the curve of the neck and tuning along the fretboard. The aim is a guitar that feels comfortable and plays in tune.

New strings, a different tuning or seasonal weather can change how a guitar plays. If yours feels harder to play than it used to, a setup may help.

Notice where the problem happens

Strings that sit too high are harder to press. Strings that buzz or notes that sound out of tune may need attention too. Notice which strings and frets cause trouble.

You don’t need to diagnose the problem. Describe what happens and where. Some issues need fretwork or another repair rather than adjustment alone.

A setup and fretwork are different jobs

A setup adjusts the guitar. Fretwork repairs the metal frets under the strings. Uneven or worn frets may need fixing before the strings can sit lower without buzzing.

We’ll explain which work your guitar needs and what it costs before you decide.

Tell us how you play

Tell us your tuning, string size if you know it, and how you play. A light touch, heavy picking and wide bends can call for different adjustments.

Bring the strings you want to use, or ask about options. Mention any show or recording date when you book.
