Repair or replace?
A fret dress repairs the frets already on your guitar. A refret replaces them. The right choice depends on their condition and how much height remains.
Grooves, buzzing and rough fret ends are reasons to get them checked. An inspection shows whether a small repair, full dress or replacement makes sense.
What a fret dress does
The frets are levelled, shaped and polished so the strings can ring cleanly. This removes a little metal, so the frets must be tall enough to work with.
A single high fret or sharp end may only need a local repair. Ask what’s included in the price and whether the guitar will need a setup afterwards.
When frets need replacing
Frets that are too low or badly worn may need replacing. A partial refret replaces a few; a full refret replaces the whole set.
The fingerboard, finish and any previous repairs affect the work and price. We inspect these before recommending a refret.
